ChatGPT has taken the world by storm and I was curious to find out what all the hype is about. I decided to sign up and have it write some promotional copy for 12 Days of Masterclasses, a free event I run over 12 Days of Christmas each year.

Here is the exact transcript of my conversation with the ChatGPT bot and the copy the bot wrote for me. Word of warning, it is a long dialogue. I have added some headlines for clarification. My questions to the bot are intended and in italic.

My conclusion after my first dialogue with ChatGPT

The ChatGPT bot is an absolute game changer. It will change everything – maybe not today but in the very near future. Finally there is a publicly available AI (artificial intelligence) bot that can generate human-like text – and in many cases you'll not see the difference whether it was written by ChatGPT or a human. For some that may sound scary but I'm actually very excited. I feel a similar excitement as when I discovered virtual reality for the first time over 20 years ago. We all know that AI was coming but suddenly within 10 days it feels like the whole world has changed.

You can embrace this new technology and massively speed up your copywriting process. My first interaction with ChatGPT took me one hour from the moment I signed up until I called it a wrap. Creating all this copy (this blog post is well over 5000 words) would have taken several hours if not a full day but only took me one hour of interaction. But like with any input related tool, the quality of the input impacts the output. As you say, crap in – crap out, or in this case quality-in quality-out.

I was not unprepared and had a lot of copy already for the input. That's why I don't think ChatGPT replaces a quality copywriter – yet – but it can massively increase the speed with which you write your copy – and it can give you ideas that you couldn't come up with on your own. Basically you can use ChatGPT like a brainstorming tool to get a lot of copy ideas in lightning speed.
